Frequently Asked Questions about Alexander Technique sessions
Are the sessions one-to-one or in a group?
The Alexander Technique is taught one-to-one. I run introductory workshops for groups from time to time.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies enormously from person to person. It could be between six and thirty. I will be able to give you a clearer idea after your introductory session.
What does it cost?
It depends on what time of day you come. £24 during the day and £30 before 9.30 am and after 5.15 pm. These are reduced to £20 and £25 if you book six sessions in advance. Some concessions are available.
How long do sessions last?
About 40 minutes.
Can I come for a session at the weekend?
Sorry, no, but you can come early in the morning or in the evening.
What is the best way to start?
It’s best to start by coming for an introductory session.
Will you run a workshop for my group, club or society?
Yes, they normally last two or three hours.
Can I reclaim the cost of my sessions?
Sometimes. Some private medical insurance companies will reimburse the cost. This is usually conditional on a referral from a GP or consultant. You will need to check with your company.
Some employers will pay for your sessions if you have a work-related problem. The most common is computer-related.
What should I wear?
Nothing special - just comfortable clothes. You will normally take your shoes off. Women usually prefer to wear trousers.
What are your qualifications?
I am a certified member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique. I also have an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and am a Chartered IT Professional.
